Sugarloaf is a small community located on the east end of the Big Bear Valley next to Big Bear City.  This affordable area is primarily residential but conveniently offers a post office, restaurant & bar, corner store and laundromat at its center. A high school, elementary school, fire station, park and skate park are all located close by. The schools in this area are part of the Bear Valley Unified School District. Public transportation is available in this area.  With easy access to Big Bear Boulevard and Highway 38, it is just a short 10 minute drive from Sugarloaf to the lake, Bear Mountain & Snow Summit Ski Resorts, and several options for shopping and dining.  

Hiking trails can be found nearby.  The San Bernardino National Forest borders the community and majestic Sugarloaf Mountain (9,952 ft. elevation at its peak) can be seen towering in the distance. To the delight of many, it is not uncommon to see wildlife in this area. Curious about the weather in Sugarloaf? Average snowfall for the Big Bear Valley is about 62 inches annually.  Big Bear gets an average of over 300 days of sunshine a year, which is why we have our very own solar observatory located on the lake.
